Biossance enlists actress Reese Witherspoon to push ‘clean’ beauty initiative

Academy Award-winning actress joins team as Global Brand Ambassador, creating marketing content of beauty brand’s ‘clean’ ethos

Beauty brand owner Amyris has tapped decorated American actress Reese Witherspoon to push the ‘clean’ beauty movement for its Biossance skin care brand.

As part of the five-year partnership, Witherspoon will be instrumental in creating content for the brand’s marketing campaigns and lead conversations on what is commonly known in the industry as the ‘clean’ beauty movement.

Witherspoon, who has served as a producer of several of her films, is also expected to develop and curate limited edition bundles, starring her favourite Biossance skus.

“I have always been conscious of what’s being put on my skin, but after all the time I’ve spent on sets through my career, I’ve learned so much,” said the 2006 Academy Award winner.

“As my knowledge has grown so has my desire to use clean and consciously created products.

“I not only fell in love with Biossance’s products, especially their Rose Oil, but also their innovative, female-led team and their mission towards a sustainable future.”

She added: “My skin has never felt healthier and I’m proud to work with such a strong industry leader in sustainability and care for our planet.”

This is not the first appearance Witherspoon has made on the beauty scene.

In 2017, she joined the team at Elizabeth Arden as its Storyteller-in-Chief in a multi-faceted role, creating online content for the Revlon-owned brand as part of its digital revamp.

A year later, she was invited to speak at personal care conglomerate P&G’s #SheIsEqual Summit, in partnership with the Association of National Advertisers' #SeeHer movement, to inspire gender equality across governments, the private sector and entertainment industries.

Speaking about Witherspoon’s deal with Biossance, the brand’s President, Catherine Gore, added: “Reese is a champion of empowerment and education.

“Her relatability, genuine desire to learn and passion for her beliefs engages everyone she reaches.

“We are honoured to partner with her in advancing our mission toward a more sustainable future for our planet through clean beauty.”

She continued: “Biossance continues to experience industry-leading growth and we expect our partnership with Reee to expand our global consumer awareness while continuing to improve the effectiveness of our mission forward, science-led, clean beauty strategy.”
