Two Bondi Sands mineral sunscreens have been recalled in the UK over potential health risks.
Certain batches of the brand’s Zinc Mineral Sunscreen SPF50+ Body Lotion and Face Lotion have shown signs of separation and uneven texture, according to a recall notice issued by the UK’s Office for Product Safety and Standards.
If the ingredients are not properly mixed, the SPF rating may be variable and place consumers at risk of sunburn, the notice said.
Bondi Sands’s Zinc Mineral Sunscreen SPF50+ Body Lotion, which comes in a 120ml tube and has the barcode 810020173420, is one of the affected products.
The Zinc Mineral Sunscreen SPF50+ Face Lotion, which comes in a 60ml tube and has the barcode 810020173406, is also impacted.
Customers who have these products should stop using them immediately, according to the recall notice.
Bondi Sands said in November last year that it was working with UK authorities to recall the affected products after recalling them in Australia.
In a statement given to Cosmetics Business at the time, Bondi Sands said: "At Bondi Sands, the safety and quality of our products are a top priority.
"Following agreement with Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Bondi Sands is recalling its Zinc Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+ Face and Body Lotions in Australia due to potential product separation.
"Given these products are also sold in the UK, we are also initiating a recall of these products in the UK.
"The affected products may have an uneven texture and visible water separating out of the product, which could impact the product’s quality and/or effectiveness.
"Customers who have purchased this sunscreen are advised to return the product to the place of purchase for a replacement or full refund, or contact info@bondisands.com.au with any questions.
"Bondi Sands regrets any inconvenience to our customers."
