C&T rises 13% in Russia

The Russian perfumery and cosmetics market grew 13% last year to reach $7bn and may climb to $7.9bn in 2006. Hair care and make-up products enjoyed the most prolific growth in 2005 with 18% and 17.7% respectively. The figures, which were announced by Moscow-based Staraya Krepost (ExpoMediaGroup), also highlighted other high performing sectors including oral care (+14%), skin care (+13.3%), perfumery (+12%), bath care (+10%), cosmetics for men (+8%), deodorants (+5%) and baby care (+2%). Trends in the country include the strong development of contract manufacturing and private label, greater activity in regional players, a growth in sales through drugstores, while international raw material suppliers are also strengthening their positions in the market.
