Iconic UK furniture and homeware retailer The Conran Shop was founded in 1973 by British entrepreneur Sir Terence Conran. Today, the company is headed up by Conran’s son, Jasper Conran, and has stores in London and Paris, as well as several franchises in Japan. The company is now looking to ramp up its beauty offering, led by a focus on undiscovered brands that complement its reputation for cutting-edge design.

What are some of the new brands you’re bringing on board?

A new brand I’m really excited about is Jardins D’écrivains which is from France and has a range of four fragrances along with body care and a core range of candles. We’re also introducing two fragrance brands, Histoires de Parfums and Scent of Departure, which is all about capturing the smell of different cities, along with Eau d’Italie, another niche fragrance brand. In terms of beauty, we’re bringing out new nail colours from Dose and expanding our colour range from Ilia. Finally we’re also launching Swedish body and skin care brand La Bruket, which I’m hoping will take us further into the area of well-being.

Why are you looking to highlight beauty at Conran?

We want to become known for our involvement in beauty. We don’t have intentions of becoming a beauty hall, but we do want to encourage customers to come in, help themselves and discover new brands and products. I also think there’s a real appetite for well-being among consumers today, along with an interest in healthy, beautifully produced products, so this is another area we’re focused on.
