Chemical specialists combine as Vertellus

Speciality chemicals focused private equity group Arsenal Capital Partners has announced the creation of Vertellus Specialties Inc, a combination of two US speciality chemical producers, Reilly Industries and Rutherford Chemicals.

The newly formed business is described as a speciality chemicals company focused on the manufacture of high growth and high value products for the personal care, pharmaceutical, nutritional, agricultural and performance materials markets. The company hopes to provide a diverse array of unique speciality products through three market focused divisions - Agriculture and Nutrition Specialties, Health and Specialty Products and Performance Materials - and will build on the life science and natural products heritage of Reilly and Rutherford.

Vertellus says it will hold the top global market position in the production of pyridine and picolines, speciality pyridine derivatives, castor oil derivatives, polymer additives and systems, DEET, citrate polymer additives and systems and sulfone monomers. It is also the second largest global producer of vitamin B-3.
