China saw cosmetics and personal care retail sales grow by double digits in October, new figures from the National Bureau of Statisics of China have revealed.
Last month, the country’s total retail sales of consumer goods reached Y2,827.9bn, up 11% from a year earlier. The figure also demonstrated sequential growth, with September posting 10.9% growth compared with 12 months earlier.
Looking at specific sectors, cosmetics saw year-on-year sales growth of 10.6%, totalling retail sales worth Y18.1bn. Every category recorded saw gains on the previous year, except petroleum and petroleum-related products, which saw a sales drop of 7.1%.
There was growth in retail sales observed in both urban and rural areas of China. In urban areas, retail sales totalled Y2,444.7bn in October up by 10.8% year-on-year, while rural areas saw a figure of Y383.2bn, up by 12.2%.
