Cognis buys CRL

Cognis Care Chemicals has announced the acquisition of polymer specialist Cosmetic Rheologies Ltd (CRL) in a bid to strengthen its position in the cosmetics industry. UK-based CRL has strong expertise in polymer research, manufacture and formulation and has customers in the skin, hair and sun care categories.

"This is a perfect match," said Richard Ridinger, group vp Cognis. "Besides active ingredients, functional polymers will become one of the key drivers for innovation in hair and skin care. Through Cosmetic Rheologies we gain superior expertise in the field of rheology modifiers and conditioning agents."

Products in the CRL line-up include Ultragel 300, a cationic polymer for rheology control in hair and skin care preparations, which is suitable for use in clear formulations and can also be used as a thickener in lotions.
