Swiss ingredient supplier DSM-firmenich and Korean UV Filter specialist ASTech have partnered to boost their global sun care capabilities.
The partnership will involve cooperation between the two businesses, combining ASTech’s expertise in UV filters, which are used in sun care products, with DSM-firmenich’s global network and R&D capabilities.
By joining together, the companies aim to “strengthen competitiveness in the global sunscreen market”, which it said in a statement is “increasingly sophisticated”.
“Sun care is a highly strategic growth pillar for DSM-firmenich,” said Parand Salmassinia, President Beauty & Care at DSM-firmenich.
“This partnership reinforces our leadership in delivering advanced UV filter solutions backed by deep science, global scale and a strong commitment to innovation.
“By combining ASTech’s world-class expertise with our R&D capabilities and global market reach, we are accelerating the development of future-forward sun care solutions that meet the evolving needs of brands and consumers worldwide.”
Through the agreement, ASTech will “showcase its UV filter technology to the world” and “lead the standards of the global UV filter ingredients market”, said the company’s CEO Jongbae Yoon in a statement.
The move comes as DSM-firmenich’s PARSOL Shield (bemotrizinol) is set to be approved for US sunscreens by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this year.
It will mark the first new UV filter approved in the country in 26 years.
