Swiss flavour and fragrance company Firmenich has reported sales of CHF2,641m for the fiscal year ended 30 June 2009, a 4.3% slide in local currencies. While the company’s consumer products business remained resilient as consumers continued to wash and clean, its fine fragrance division was reportedly affected by lower demand.
However, Firmenich was keen to stress that the global recession had not altered its commitment to sustainable practices. The company’s 2009 Sustainability Report, published yesterday, showed Firmenich to have exceeded three of its five 2010 Environmental Goals set against its financial 2005 base line. Successes include a 44.4% reduction in hazardous waste as well as substantial reductions in the volume of energy used (28%) and CO2 emissions (26.7%).
