Following a positive March and April, retailers have seen an upsurge in sales across many retail categories, according to research from public accounting firm BDO Stoy Hayward – although this hasn't been reflected in the health and beauty arena
Indeed, there were some noticeable differences between the fashion and non-fashion sectors. Health and beauty spending was described as "subdued" while the gifting and luxury category received a 2.3% boost due to Easter-related rurchases.
Meanwhile fashion sales were up 2.7% on average in what retailers were calling its strongest monthly performance since July 2008.
