Consumer goods company Hypermarcas has bolstered its foothold in the Brazilian cosmetics industry by buying rival manufacturer Niasi for R$633m.
By acquiring Niasi, a fellow Brazilian company, Hypermarcas has gained two new lucrative cosmetics brands to take into its stable – hair colour market leader Biocolor and nail polish brand Risqué.
The move comes hot on the heels of Hypermarcas’ acquisition of Revlon subsidiary Ciel, with its popular Bozzano men’s grooming brand, in April this year, shortly after Hypermarcas went public as a company.
In a statement on the company’s website ceo, Claudio Bergamo said of the move: “Niasi’s products are highly complementary to our current cosmetics portfolio. Hypermarcas has already consolidated its leadership in the OTC drugs market and, with this step, we also conquer a national leading position in beauty and personal hygiene in self service stores.”
