French perfumes group Inter Parfums has ended its contract with Quiksilver, the US group specialising in winter sports clothing.
The three-year-old agreement related to the creation of perfumes covering a period to 2017. However, business has developed more slowly than expected with sales of the Quiksilver perfume down sharply to €2.2m in first half 2009 compared with the same period of 2008. President of Inter, Philippe Benacin said it was not a question of profitability but of the low level of sales in a highly competitive sector. The agreement will now expire at the end of June 2010. It is understood that relations between the two companies became more difficult after the departure in March 2008 of Quiksilver's former director, Bernard Mariette.
