Kanebo begins sales assault on Russia
Japan’s Kanebo Cosmetics Inc is to begin full scale sales of its products in Russia this month, it announced yesterday. The group has established a sales subsidiary, Kanebo Cosmetics Russia LLC, in a bid to increase the number of stores in Russia selling its high-end Sensai brand from around 70 to 100 and to garner annual sales of ¥1bn by 2011. In the past Kanebo has relied on a local sales agent, but to take advantage of rising income levels among Russian consumers the group has increased its focus on the region.

The ¥390m subsidiary was paid for in part by Kanebo’s parent company, Kao Corporation, which contributed 10% of the capital with Kanebo providing the rest.
