L’Oréal vs eBay case begins in UK
L’Oréal has today started proceedings against online auction site eBay at London’s High Court for selling counterfeit versions of its products. The French cosmetics giant has now begun legal proceedings against the site in France, Belgium, Germany and Spain, as well as the UK.
L’Oréal has today started proceedings against online auction site eBay at London’s High Court for selling counterfeit versions of its products. The French cosmetics giant has now begun legal proceedings against the site in France, Belgium, Germany and Spain, as well as the UK.
L’Oréal is accusing eBay of selling goods that are either fake or sourced from outside the European Economic Area. eBay, however, denies the claims saying that it was simply providing a trading platform.
Last year saw L’Oréal lose a case against eBay in Belgium. But luxury goods group LVMH has won rulings against the site in the French courts.
In related news, the Tribunal de Grande Instance is due to deliver its verdict this week in L’Oréal’s French case.
