Persistent coughing, high temperature and loss of smell are all symptoms widely associated with Covid-19.

But medical professionals did not expect hair loss to be an added side effect of the disease.

According to Philip Kingsley’s Brand President and Consultant Trichologist, Anabel Kinglsey, it’s not a surprising reaction.

“It makes complete sense,” she told Cosmetics Business.

“Due to the hair growth cycle, telogen effluvium [a form of temporary hair loss] is often expected six to 12 weeks or so after the period of illness, medication or stress that triggered it.

“Although it can be extremely distressing, rest assured the hair will almost certainly grow back once the underlying issue has been resolved.”

One celebrity in particular took to Twitter to speak out about her hair loss after contracting the virus.

The ‘Charmed’ star Alyssa Milano told people to wear a mask as she brushed out chunks of hair in an at-home video titled: “Thought I’d should you what #Covid19 does to your hair. Please take this seriously. #WearADamnMask #LongHauler”.

Here, Cosmetics Business finds out which hair care brands consumers have been turning to to restore their luscious locks.
