Market research company Mintel has released its predictions for the flavour and fragrance trends for 2010 in the US. According to the company, consumers will continue to favour traditional scents, while also welcoming some new notes into their fragrance choices.

The first of the two trend predictions for fragranced products is that of simple, clean scents. Manufacturers are said to be keeping it simple in 2010 with many body lotions and similar products being created using single component scents. The second trend predicted by Mintel is for scents that influence the mood. As consumers lead increasingly stressful and on-the-go lifestyles they are said to be looking for ways in which to escape from the stresses that go hand in hand with this routine. An example given by the company is that of a pina colada scented candle, which may be reminiscent of a beach holiday.
