The L’Oréal-owned fragrance and fashion label confirmed the departure of former creative lead Casey Cadwallader

Mugler has announced the appointment of Miguel Castro Freitas as Creative Director.

The L’Oréal-owned fragrance and fashion house also confirmed the departure of seven-year creative lead Casey Cadwallader.

“It is an honour to join the spectacular house of Mugler,” said Castro Freitas in a post on Mugler’s Instagram account (@mulglerofficial).

“As one of the 20th century’s great couturiers, Mr. Mugler reimagined the power and limits of fashion.

“Alongside the teams, I am thrilled to bring my own vision, story and emotion to this monumental heritage.”

Castro Freitas, whose directorship is effective 1 April, has previously worked at Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin and Dries Van Noten.

Most recently, he led Max Mara’s Sportmax label from 2021 to 2024.

Exiting Creative Director Cadwallader had been celebrated in the role for his curve-hugging, inclusive clothing designs, with celebrity fans including Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion.

The maison behind the Angel and Alien fragrances was founded by the late Manfred Thierry Mugler and became a L’Oréal brand in 2019 when the French beauty giant took over the operations of Clarins’ fragrance division.
