NaTrue, the Brussels-based natural and organic certification association and US-based Quality Assurance International (QAI) have agreed to create a fast-track mutual recognition process for the certification of products complying with both the NaTrue label and the US NSF/ANSI 305: Made with Organic Personal Care Products.

Under the new agreement, NaTrue and QAI will create a guidance document to identify the differences between the two standards, which is hoped will provide a blue print for manufacturers on how to demonstrate compliance with both standards.

Both organisations believe the agreement marks an important first step towards creating more harmonisation of standards and further talks are taking place.

In other news, NaTrue has announced that the first 100 cosmetic products have now gained NaTrue certification. The label is said to provide orientation for consumers and manufacturers by defining transparent and strict criteria for natural and organic cosmetics.
