The use of fragrance in cosmetics and personal care products will be put in the spotlight at this year’s in-cosmetics as a brand new zone populated by fragrance ingredient suppliers is announced.
A crucial component in any cosmetic and personal care product, fragrance plays a significant role in providing the best possible sensory experience for users and can act as a differentiator in a competitive market. The Fragrance in Cosmetics Zone, in partnership with the Société Française des Parfumeurs (SFP), will sit at the heart of the show floor and provide a perfect place to learn more about the unique technical and formulation challenges presented by adding fragrance to products, as well as the latest scent combinations.

Perfume compositions used in cosmetics and personal care products account for approximately 30 per cent (in volume) of the total fragrance industry, making it an important sector. The zone will house interactive pods where visitors can meet with fragrance houses and suppliers and distributors of fragrance ingredients, essential oils and natural extracts to indulge their senses and discover new and exciting scents to improve existing formulations or create inspiring new ones. Not only this, they will be able to gain better insight into how factors such as stability, deposition, absorption and evaporation can all affect the resulting fragrance in a personal care product.
“We have created the Fragrance in Cosmetics Zone in response to visitor demand,” commented Lucy Gillam, Event Director, in-cosmetics. “The way a product smells can have a lasting effect on consumers, with scent able to conjure emotions and memories, therefore making it an important component in personal care products. The zone will enable formulators to immerse themselves in the world of fragrance, and also learn about the technical considerations of incorporating fragrance ingredients."
To support the Fragrance in Cosmetics zone, a half-day session as part of the Marketing Trends programme will offer attendees in-depth insights into fragrance creation and formulating with different raw materials. Presented by experts in the field, topics explored will include the use of synthetic vs. natural ingredients, formulation and technical challenges and consumer trends.
