Euperlan NL Pearl features COSMOS certified naturally derived ingredients and is suitable for hair care, bath and body product applications

Chemicals company BASF has expanded its ingredients range with Euperlan NL Pearl, said to be the first wax-based pearliser for cosmetics applications that is COSMOS compliant.

Developed to meet consumer demand for opacifying and pearlising effects without using pigments, Euperlan NL Pearl comprises a blend of naturally derived ingredients including hydrogenated vegetable oil, cocamidopropyl betaine and glycerol oleate.

Recommended for rinse-off applications including shampoos, body wash and shower gels, it is said to show “outstanding” attributes for hair care applications, including wet and dry combing tests, anti-hair breakage measurements and suppleness tests.

It is also said to be biodegradable, easy to formulate and cold processable, allowing for brands to claim up to 99% natural origin content, according to the company.

“The number of consumers interested in certified natural cosmetic products is increasing,” said Nadine Le Bris, head of market development for hair, body and oral care at BASF.

“With Euperlan NL Pearl, we enable producers of shampoos and body wash products to develop formulations with outstanding performances and attractive sensory properties.”

The latest launch joins BASF’s Euperlan range alongside Euperlan OP White, which is designed to give personal care products a creamy appearance while meeting growing demand for eco-friendly ingredients.
