The Spanish are among the cleanest in the world. At least, that is the conclusion that can be drawn from a number of surveys picked up by the Spanish media in recent months. It is not surprising that those living in the warmest countries are more likely to have at least one shower a day. One newspaper reported that two in five Spaniards spend between six and ten minutes under the shower every day.

Another study, carried out by Demoscopia, revealed that the average person in Spain spends two days a year in the shower. A common point of interest is that it is young people who boost this figure, half of whom shower at least once a day for a minimum of 12 minutes, significantly longer than the five minutes that the World Health Organisation suggests as the ideal length. Older people tended to take fewer showers, although an El País article reported noted that sweating could decrease with age meaning that people remain clean longer, thus reducing the need for daily showers.
