Glassmaker Bormioli Luigi has opened a new unit dedicated to making bottles for fragrance and cosmetics in Azuqueca, Spain.
The site, situated 40km from Madrid, had been used for the Italian group’s tableware business since its acquisition in 2017.
It is now in the process of pivoting to glass packaging for the beauty industry.
According to Bormioli Luigi, when fully operational, the facility will be equipped with four new IS (individual section) machines for hollow glass manufacturing, as well as a decoration workshop.
This will represent a total capacity of 90 million units per year, a production capacity increase of a third for the company.
The first of Bormioli Luigi’s IS machines in Azuqueca began running in 2022.
Two more are due to be brought online in H1 2023, and a fourth and final one at the beginning of 2024.
“We must continue to support brands with an adapted service in line with demand, build growth as partners, optimise products and engage in ever more sustainable innovation,” commented Simone Baratta, Director of the Perfume & Prestige Business Unit at Bormioli Luigi.
