Key challenges addressed

Known for its reliance on single-use plastic, the beauty and personal care industry has gained a reputation as one of the worst offenders for packaging waste.

With 142 billion units of packaging being produced by the global industry every year, and plastic usage increasing by 17% between 2010 and 2017, according to Euromonitor, manufacturers have come under increasing pressure to reduce plastic use and switch to sustainable packaging solutions.

Despite brands large and small innovating to meet this demand, an overwhelming 90% of consumers cannot name a beauty or personal care brand or manufacturer that is ‘doing a good job on plastics’, according to Kantar, revealing that there is still a significant way to go for the category.
