Recognised in the small business category for its high performance, green specialty chemicals

Elevance Renewable Sciences has been awarded the 2012 Presidential Green Challenge Award for the small business category by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). On its website, the EPA praised the company for its “production of high performing, green specialty chemicals at advantageous costs”.

“These green chemicals can be produced with less energy, significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions compared to petrochemical technologies, and used in a wide range of consumer and industrial products and processes,” it added.

The Illinois based company produces its green chemicals from renewable oils and has biorefineries in Indonesia and Mississippi. Its production processes use Nobel prize winning innovations in metathesis catalysis, which Elevance says consume significantly less energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to petrochemical technologies.

The company’s products can be used for novel surfactants, lubricants, additives, polymers and engineered thermoplastics.

“Elevance is honoured to be recognised by the EPA for our work in bringing innovation in the renewable chemistry industry,” said ceo K’Lynne Johnson. “Our development team has enabled cost effective renewable solutions for our customers. I am pleased to accept this award on their behalf.”
