Retailer to take on branded beauty products for the first time

UK high street stalwart Marks & Spencer has launched a new retail concept which is aimed to transform its beauty offer both in store and online. The new offering will include branded beauty products for the first time, creating a new sector for the retailer, which is traditionally known for its own brand products.

The Your Beauty concept follows a complete overhaul of its existing own brand products, which have been repackaged and reformulated. Added to this are 23 new brands, covering hair care, skin and body care, colour cosmetics and fragrance which will be exclusive to M&S. Brands include Apivita, Nuxe, Philip Kingsley, Dr Murad, Filorga, Tara Smith, Pur Minerals, Chantal Thomas, Fragonards, Leighton Denny and Roger & Gallet.

In addition the offer includes a virtual makeover counter, where consumers can try out new looks and colours interactively. The service will also be available on-line.

The retailer has debuted the concept in its High Street Kensington store in London, where Your Beauty covers 1150 sqft. The concept will then be rolled out nationwide into 57 stores by the end of the year. M&S estimates the service will be in 126 stores by October 2013 including international stores.

In the coming months, M&S will also launch a number of own brand product lines, starting with Pure in August. The skin and body care range contains a minimum of 95% natural ingredients, mainly sourced locally in the UK and is said to marry the best of science and nature.

In September it will also launch Cowley Manor, a lifestyle spa range developed with the Cotswolds based hotel and Lyn Harris Perfumer London, a range of fragrances created in collaboration with Miller Harris founder, Lyn Harris.
