Procter & Gamble (P&G) has lost a trademark lawsuit against UK-based Nelovy Pharma.
P&G claimed that the logo for Nelovy Pharma’s Solav cream, which features a large 'S' and a stylised image of a female face, was similar to the trademark for P&G’s Olay skin care brand.
Nelovy had applied for a trademark for its design last year and P&G opposed it on the grounds of ‘confusion’, as P&G had already registered the Olay trademark in the UK in 1993. The most recent trademark for Olay also features a woman’s face inside a circle above the word ‘Olay’.
