Online database simplifies cosmetics ingredients search

The European Commission has set up an online database of the ingredients used in cosmetic products. The CosIng database contains the details of more than 15,000 ingredients. Companies can check if and how a substance is regulated at EU level, and from when and how it has been regulated in the past.


The European Commission has set up an online database of the ingredients used in cosmetic products. The CosIng database contains the details of more than 15,000 ingredients. Companies can check if and how a substance is regulated at EU level, and from when and how it has been regulated in the past.

CosIng also includes hyperlinks to opinions from the Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) and provides information like the chemical names of ingredients and how they should be labelled on products.

The database replaces an old pdf list which was one of the most consulted documents on the DG Enterprise website.
