Project seeks to boost use of compostable plastics
Survey to be distributed among companies with packaged products
The first BCPN-project Compostable Packaging meeting took place at Nedupack Thermoforming in Rheden, the Netherlands on 18 January 2011. The project, organised by the NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre, is designed to improve the possibilities for the use of compostable plastics in packaging. In addition to, from Nedupack Thermoforming, the three other project partners are Bio4Pack Plastics2Pack and Flevostar Dronten.
The project, which ends in 2012, is part of the InnovationPerformanceContract Bioplastics of the Belangenvereniging composteerbare producten Nederland (BCPN).
The meeting revealed knowledge transfer to be important to the success of the project and in light of this a survey will be distributed among companies with packaged products on the market. The results will be used to improve information services and support the development of a course on the use of compostable packaging. In addition, participating companies will research different aspects of compostable packaging such as its influence on product shelf life and processability in the packaging line.
