Safety committee resumes work on hair dye assessments
Mixed news from EU scientific committee
The EU scientific committee on consumer safety has released its latest assessments on hair dyes, concluding the sensitising potential of HC Red n° 10 + HC Red n° 11 combinations “cannot be excluded”. It added that they were “prone to nitrosation”. Meanwhile it said tests had thus far neither proven the safety of Basic Blue 99 dyes nor the genotoxic potential of hair colour precursor 2,6-dihydroxyethylaminotoluene. The committee however declared safe under normal use Basic Violet 2; Basic Red 51; and dye ingredient 2,6-diamino-3-((pyridine-3-yl)azo)pyridine.
