BASF has developed a new oral care ingredient designed to eliminate the bacteria responsible for tooth decay from the mouth.

Developed with microbial strain development specialist OrganoBalance, pro-t-action is based on the probiotic microorganism Lactobacillus paracasei, which binds to caries causing bacteria (Streptococcus mutans). Once the bacteria are clumped together they can be flushed out of the oral cavity by rinsing or swallowing. According to BASF, pro-t-action only needs to remain in the oral cavity for a minimum of ten seconds to become active and it is tasteless, odourless and pH neutral. It can also be integrated into toothpaste, mouthwash, sweets, lozenges and chewing gum.

In addition, BASF Beauty Care Solutions has created two new actives designed to help diminish the signs of oily skin. Mat-XS Clinical is a synthetic molecule said to reduce the apparent size of pores, reduce shine and even out the complexion in just two weeks while Mat-XS Bright is an extract of Java tea that reduces shine and adds luminosity to skin.
