Stable condition

Published: 4-Jul-2006

Cosmetic formulators face a challenge when they need to develop stable cosmetic formulations, especially when using light sensitive organic ingredients such as dyestuffs, fragrances, active ingredients and UV filters. When light sensitive ingredients are affected, this leads to a loss in product integrity, colour fading, malodour, changes in viscosity etc. Merck seeks to remedy this with its introduction of Oxynex ST Liquid - a new and vital active substance that stabilizes light sensitive ingredients.

Diethylhexyl syringylidene malonate (DESM) is the active substance. It is a unique molecule said to provide adequate protection against oxidation for light sensitive cosmetic ingredients due to its specific structure. The application of Oxynex ST Liquid offers unlimited colour variations in coloured formulations such as shampoos. Oxynex ST Liquid is appropriate for use in all perfumed cosmetic applications and has been proven to provide considerable improvement in the light stability of antioxidant compounds. The fields of application for this stabiliser are varied: fragrances, sun care and skin care products, hair care, bath & shower and personal care products can benefit from the efficiency of Oxynex ST Liquid.

At room temperature Oxynex ST Liquid is a viscous yellowish liquid that is miscible with cosmetic oils. The recommended concentration is approximately 0.5% for general applications and 0.1% for colour stabilization. Oxynex ST Liquid is compatible with cosmetic raw materials and can be added to the oil phase.
