The big mix-up

Hosokawa Micron Ltd has introduced the Pharma Flexomix, a continuous mixer agglomerator, developed to meet the needs of the pharmaceutical industry while producing high quality end products. The Flexomix is said to incorporate an easy clean hygienic design including a monobloc stainless steel rotor design. It is claimed that with the introduction of the Flexomix FXD 100, the extruder operation is improved through the better flow properties of the granules from mixer. Typical throughput rates for the mixer are said to be 50-125 kg/hr of pharmaceutical powders with liquid dosing rates of 20 - 24% using water or water plus a binding agent. The Flexomix has a clean-in-place nozzle in the lower mixing chamber, a stainless steel casing and a special acoustic enclosure. The unit can be fully validated and complies with regulations and guidelines including FDA, cGMP, GAMP and EHEDG.
