Twenty seven white ‘rabbits’ set to deliver petition to EU Commission
Petition calls for ban on animal tested cosmetics
A petition will be delivered to the EU Commission in Brussels on Wednesday 18 June by 27 white ‘rabbits’ each carrying their EU member state flag.
The petition, which has amassed 350,000 signatures, calls for a ban on selling cosmetics tested on animals abroad in the EU. A ban is due in 2013 but there are concerns that the commission might delay this deadline.
The petition, by animal charity Humane Society International/Europe, will be handed to John Dalli, European commissioner for health and consumer policy. It has received support from celebrities including Leona Lewis, Ricky Gervais and Chrissie Hynde, as well as cruelty-free brand Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics.
