Personal care growth driven by strong innovation, says company

Unilever has announced underlying sales growth of 3.6% for Q1 2014 with emerging markets up 6.6%. However, turnover slid 6.3% to €11.4bn as a result of negative currency impact.

Personal care grew ahead of Unilever's markets driven by a strong innovation programme, according to the company. Activity in the deodorant category included the company's roll-out of the compressed aerosol format to new markets in Europe. In skin, Dove Nutrium Moisture shower gels also continued to drive growth across all markets, while Vaseline Spray & Go was said to have made good progress in existing markets and was extended to Australia. In hair, the Dove Advanced Hair Series was launched in the US and TRESemmé 7 Day Smooth was introduced in the UK and the US.

Meanwhile, in oral care, the brand owner launched Signal White Now Men, its first toothpaste specifically designed for men.
