Univar has partnered with global technology company 3M to distribute its Cosmetic Microspheres CM111. The 3M Cosmetic Microspheres are semi-transparent, white micron-sized spherical ceramic particles designed to be used as texture enhancers and fillers in a number of cosmetic applications including lipsticks, mascaras, pressed and loose powders and skin care applications. The microspheres are claimed to provide a softer, silky, more luxurious feel compared to conventional premium fillers such as boron nitride, PMMA and nylon-12, thanks to their spherical shape.

The ceramic composition provides good spreadability and is non-absorbent, helping to prevent formulations from drying out. The microspheres are also said to offer a good balance of total and scattered light transmission properties, enabling formulators to create a soft focus effect, which helps to blur lines and wrinkles on the skin.
