Specialty chemicals and ingredients distributor Univar Solutions has signed a deal with DSM-Firmenich to distribute the company’s beauty and personal care ingredients in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

The agreement covers Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama and Honduras, and includes DSM-Firmenich’s solutions for use in sun care, skin care and hair care.

It builds on the two companies’ existing supplier relationship covering North America and Europe.

DSM-Firmenich – formed by the merger of Dutch-Swiss nutrition, health and biosciences firm DSM and Swiss perfumery player Firmenich this year – boasts a portfolio including UV filters, vitamins, actives, extracts, peptides and performance ingredients.

“Both Univar Solutions and DSM-Firmenich are focused on ingredients, formulations, and solutions that nourish, protect and improve the lives of people and the changing needs of our planet,” said the Global Vice President for Beauty and Personal Care for Univar Solutions, James Peterson.

“Univar Solutions brings additional value to our customers with their forward-thinking approach to the future of the distribution industry in areas such as reliability, technical acumen and digitalisation,” added Guilherme Dias, Personal Care Regional Director, LATAM for DSM-Firmenich.

“We envision a continued successful partnership with Univar Solutions, providing comprehensive support and a sustainable approach along the way.”

The deal follows the completion, earlier this month, of Univar Solutions’ acquisition by Apollo Funds.

The US$8.1bn purchase, which included a minority investment from a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, was announced in March this year.
