Cognis enjoys Q1 double-digit sales growth
Speciality chemicals supplier says focus on sustainability is responsible for strong results
Speciality chemicals company Cognis has announced a net profit of €47m for the first quarter of 2010 on sales of €728m, a 10.6% increase compared to sales in the same period of the previous year. The company’s Care Chemicals business achieved sales of €407m (+10%), while Nutrition & Health increased by 5.2% to €88m and Functional Products achieved sales of €229m (+14%).
Cognis ceo Antonio Trius credited the company’s focus on “wellness and sustainability trends” for its strong first quarter results. “We expect to further improve our business performance in 2010 by providing added value to the customer through our innovative portfolio of green products,” he added.
Cognis is currently on the market for approximately €3.5bn and several European companies including BASF, Lubrizol, Croda and Solvay as well as a number of private equity groups are said to be interested.
