Douglas improves C&T sales at home and abroad

Germany’s Douglas group, which includes the perfumery chain of the same name as well as the Appelrath-Cuepper fashion house, has posted a 4.6% increase in sales to €3.1bn in 2008 with pre-tax earnings rising by 2.8% to €147.1m.


Germany’s Douglas group, which includes the perfumery chain of the same name as well as the Appelrath-Cuepper fashion house, has posted a 4.6% increase in sales to €3.1bn in 2008 with pre-tax earnings rising by 2.8% to €147.1m.

The perfumery business was able to expand its position as market leader in Europe during 2008 and the 1171 perfumery outlets posted sales for 2007-08 of over €1.8bn, an increase of 8.9%. The 445 perfumeries in Germany increased sales 4% to over €916m. The perfumeries abroad achieved a 14.1% rise in sales to about €915m and increased their market presence in south east Europe by entering the Romanian, Croatian and Bulgarian markets. The foreign perfumeries increased their contribution in total sales from 47.6% to 50% while pre-tax profits in the perfumery sector rose slightly from €196m to a little over €197m.
