Dow Corning generates soft focus

New studies have demonstrated that in addition to their ability to absorb oil and modify rheology, Dow Corning brand silica silylate aerogel materials generate a soft focus effect.
The significant in vitro soft focus effect of these materials is an expression of the way light behaves on the skin and in wrinkles. In general, wrinkles appear as dark, non-reflective areas because of the way light falls and remains there. In contrast, if light is reflected and diffused, the wrinkle appears less prominent. Dow Corning silica silylate aerogels act as optical light diffusers, preventing light from becoming trapped, and allowing for transparency.
“Light essentially reflects from the skin and passes out of the particle, making wrinkles less visible, making these materials ideal for anti-ageing creams, lotions or makeup,” says Stephanie Postiaux, Dow Corning application chemist.
