E.l.f. Beauty recorded a strong start to the 2027 financial year, with a boost from new launches from Hailey Bieber’s Rhode, which delivered US$27m of direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales in a single day.
Sales across e.l.f. Beauty grew 36% to $479.4m in the three months to the end of June 2026.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the first quarter were $168m, up 93% on the same period last year, or up 36% excluding tariff refunds.
Net income was $105m versus $51m a year ago, with tariff refunds accounting for $40m of that.
E.l.f. Beauty received $50m in tariff refunds in the first quarter, and will use the cash to invest in the business, largely via pricing actions and increased marketing.
The beauty conglomerate, which also owns skin care brand Naturium as well as its own-brand make-up and skin care lines e.l.f. Cosmetics and e.l.f. Skin, upped its sales outlook for the year off the back of the performance.
“In Q1, we delivered 36% net sales growth, marking our 30th consecutive quarter – over seven continuous years – of net sales growth,” said Tarang Amin, Chairman and CEO of e.l.f. Beauty.
“This consistent, category-leading growth is a testament to the strength of our team, strategy and portfolio of brands.
“With the momentum we are seeing, we are raising our fiscal 2027 outlook to 18% to 20% sales growth from 12% to 14% previously.”
Rhode outperforms for e.l.f. Beauty
Rhode’s growth continued to be "outstanding" during the quarter, contributing $160m in net sales.
The brand notched up a record-breaking launch into Sephora in the UK and North America, as well as Australian beauty retailer Mecca.
Rhode will launch into Sephora stores in 19 European countries this autumn.
The brand’s new summer range, which debuted in June and included Pocket Bronze and Highlight Milk, recorded $27m in DTC sales via Rhode’s website in a single day.
The launch attracted 90,000 new consumers, while 70% were repeat buyers.
Amin said e.l.f. Beauty believes Rhode could be the fastest beauty brand to hit $1bn in net sales.
A deep dive into e.l.f. Cosmetics growth
Meanwhile, e.l.f. Cosmetics innovations such as a larger Power Grip Primer and a tie-up with fashion retailer H&M on a fragrance line, plus an entry into hair care, helped boost sales in the period.
More than half of buyers of the hair care line, which launched in June, were new to the e.l.f. Beauty brand.
Amin said the line has potential within US retailer Target akin to e.l.f. Skin over time.
The brand will also “fast-track additional innovation that our community has been asking for”, he added.
“We aim to have these products in [the] market before the holidays.”
E.l.f. Cosmetics will focus on growing share in its biggest markets outside the US – the UK, Canada and Germany.
This will include an expansion of the brand in UK health and beauty retailer Boots this autumn.
E.l.f. Cosmetics will also enter new markets, including launching in Sephora in Brazil, which is the world’s third largest cosmetics market – extending its reach in the Latin America region where it launched in Sephora Mexico in 2024.
E.l.f. Skin will also launch at Dollar General in the US.
Meanwhile, Naturium will launch in Sephora in Canada and Mexico this autumn.
