French consumer authorities spot dangerous cosmetics

Banned ingredients hydroquinone and clobetasol highlighted

French consumer authorities have seized five potentially dangerous cosmetics made in the Ivory Coast, said the EU’s rapid consumer alert service RAPEX. These were three G&G branded Dynamiclair skin lighteners; a Dawny branded lightening, anti-blemish beauty oil; and L’Abidjanaise skin lightening cream.

The G&G and Dawny products were seized for containing clobetasol propionate, banned under the EU cosmetics directive. The L’Abidjanaise cream was seized for containing 7.1% hydroquinone as a skin whitening agent, which “can pose a threat to health” if applied liberally and regularly, said a RAPEX note.
