The UK Government has fined British luxury department store Harvey Nichols for underpaying staff the national minimum wage (NMW).

The business was named among 389 UK companies that have allegedly failed to pay £7.3m to thousands of its staff, with Harvey Nichols and Company Limited failing to pay £7,537.39 to 83 workers.

This was due to a “small number of historic technical issues”, a Harvey Nichols spokesperson told Cosmetics Business, which resulted in “arrears and an associated penalty”.

The spokesperson said the “issues were resolved immediately”.
