Hollywood glamour inspires Lipstick Queen’s latest line

Colour cosmetics brand Lipstick Queen is launching a new line of lipsticks from September which promise to combine dense pigments and rich colour with a feather-light, velvety texture.

The formulation of the new Velvet Rope line, which took the brand over 18 months to perfect, uses a silicone elastomer to glide weightlessly onto the lips. It also features natural waxes candelilla, carnauba and beeswax to provide structure to the lipstick, along with vitamin E and apricot oil to soften and nourish the lips. Finally, the addition of peppermint oil adds a subtle, clean scent.

The lipsticks will be housed in luxury gold packaging, described by Lipstick Queen founder Poppy King as “pure Hollywood”. Meanwhile, the outer packaging will be in the form of a blue velvet box, said to have been inspired by the David Lynch film Blue Velvet, according to King. The Velvet Rope line comes in five shades: Private Party (hot pink), Brat Pack (red), Entourage (wine), Black Tie (deep red) and Star System (nude). The line will be priced at £35 – a higher price point compared with other items in the brand.

Australian entrepreneur Poppy King made her foray into beauty at the age of 18 with her first line of lipsticks. She later moved to New York to head up marketing for Estée Lauder’s Prescriptives brand, before making her industry comeback last year with the launch of Lipstick Queen, now sold at Space NK.
