Nails Inc profile – Nailing an opportunity

Published: 24-Nov-2011

Nail products have been one of the best performing sectors worldwide in the past couple of years and British brand Nails Inc caters for most needs when it comes to nail varnish, manicures and pedicures. However the company is increasingly branching into nail art as a lucrative revenue stream and has recently made a move into the US and Canadian markets.

Thea Green set up her business, Nails Inc, in 1999 as a way to provide speedy manicures for women with little time on their hands for pampering. By 2011 she has just received an MBE for services to the beauty industry and has come along way from modest beginnings. Katie Middleweek met Green to find out where it all went right

Thea Green is a lady who knows where she wants to be in business, and more importantly how to make it happen. The glamorous 35 year old mother of three young children set up her business, Nails Inc, in 1999 with the help of 11 ‘angel investors’ and her then business partner Marie Therese Carney. Eighteen months down the line Carney bowed out of Nails Inc leaving Green the sole person at the helm.

She now employs over 400 people in 60 locations across the UK and her brand has just gone into Sephora stores across the US and Canada – to great acclaim. Business is brisk and expanding and Green is someone who by her own admission still works “seven days a week” to make sure that her brand makes waves.

With recent moves into nail art, with magnetic shades selling extremely well and nail wraps and treatment products also in demand, it’s not just about colour any more for Nails Inc. Though there is still plenty of that to be had with new shades hitting shelves every four to six weeks and customers rushing to one of the Nails Inc nail bars to get anything from a manicure and a polish (prices start from £18) to a Swarovski Crystal Pedicure (a premium £120).
