The new Albéa-created eco-friendly tube will help Henkel achieve its 100% recyclability target by 2025

Personal care heavyweight Henkel has relaunched its oral care brand Licor del Polo with new eco-friendly packaging.

The Spanish toothpaste brand will now sport packaging giant Albéa’s Greenleaf tube, which is recognised by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) as being recyclable within existing HDPE bottle recycling systems.

This technology from Albéa also uses single-blown film to reduce the product’s carbon dioxide footprint.

“With Henkel, we are demonstrating that leading companies, with established brands such as Licor del Polo, are at the forefront of the sustainability challenge,” said Zoran Joksic, Albéa’s Sale Director.

“What makes a difference is the brand’s sense of purpose and this is a value that Albéa shares with Henkel.”

Henkel has committed to converting its entire oral care portfolio to recyclable tubes, which will be provided by Albéa.

“We want to foster a circular economy and pursue ambition packaging targets,” added Henkel’s Head of Packaging Sustainability, Philippe Blank.

“This joint development is a major step for us to further improve the recyclability of our packaging portfolio and is contributing significantly to our goal to achieve 100% recyclability until 2025.”

He also said that by adopting Albéa’s Greenleaf technology the brand will ensure 700 tonnes of packaging material is recyclable rather than going to landfill.

Earlier this year, the French packaging firm teamed up with Colgate on its Smile for Good toothpaste, made from high-density polyethylene, traditionally used for milk containers and plastic bottles.

According to Albéa, the launch was the first recyclable toothpaste packaging recognised by the APR and RecyClass.

Albéa has also teamed up with L’Oréal’s La Roche-Posay brand on a carton for its latest sunscreen.
