L’Oréal reveals 6 hair colour trends for 2018

The fashion-forward hair colour predictions include rose blondes and smokey greys

L’Oréal has revealed its prediction for the must-have hair colours for 2018.

The six shades were selected by the brands colour designers who are said to have spent months analysing trends on the internet, studying search data and travelling across the world.

According to L’Oréal, its stylists drew inspiration from fashion, design, art, music and the car industry.

1. Dark Rose Blonde & Medium Rose Blonde

The research is to support L’Oréal's new product collections – Superior Preference Rose Blonde and Feria Glam Grunge – that aims to help consumer try on-trend hair colours at home.

"Both rose gold and grunge-inspired hair colour shades have taken over as digital sensations, editorial obsessions and are now trending in professional," said Daniel Moon, L'Oréal Paris Hair Colour Consulting Colourist and owner of LA-based HAIR salon.

"This year, I visited numerous countries studying people from many different cultures, visiting exhibits and art fairs, going backstage at fashion shows and meeting with the top master colourists all around the globe," said Orrea Light, VP of L'Oréal Global Marketing Beauty Innovation and Acceleration.

"Through this process, rose gold and 90's-inspired grunge consistently emerged as the top trends.

"We challenged our colour labs with creating hair colour shades that would allow people a premium, yet accessible, and fashion-forward way of expressing these trends and are thrilled to now introduce them."

To support the new collection L'Oréal Paris is unveiling ads, online tutorials and educational content.

5. Purple Smoke

Consumers are encouraged by the hair care brand to show off how their trend trends on social by tagging @lorealhair and using #HairColorsoftheYear.
