Lower Stable Street will house 11 retail spaces including a beauty pop-up from Beautystack

A new street dedicated to pop-ups, events and workshops has opened next to Coal Drops Yard shopping centre near King’s Cross Station, London.

Lower Stable Street, curated by creative business magazine Kiosk N1C and located between Stable Street and the main Coal Drops Yard building, will feature 11 stores, including digital beauty platform Beautystack and other brands across fashion, music and the arts.

At the store, Beautystack will offer workshops for a ‘new generation of beauty professionals’, for its three month stint on the street, and provide in-store treatments from brand including Bam Brows, Keash Braids, Slash Beauty and Pavan Henna.

The market-style street will be available for long and flexible leases, encouraging brands to experiment with the space and even collaborate together.

Property development company Argent was responsible for expanding the retail space and according to Frederique Jungman, Senior Project Manager, the firm wanted to provide an innovative area for emerging business.

He said: “The street includes a mix of two to three year tenancies to anchor the street and enhance the feeling of community, and shorter residencies, which will change every few months to foster experimentation and encourage the unexpected.”

Alongside the stores, customers can expect to find a range of cafes, bars and restaurants.

Thomas Heatherwick, founder of Heathwick Studio, the firm responsible for the designing the area added: “It has been a huge privilege working on Coal Drops Yard.

“These amazing Victorian structures were never originally built to be inhabited by hundreds of people, but instead formed part of the sealed-off infrastructure of spaces and allow everyone to experience these rich and characterful buildings.

Currently, Coal Drops Yard offers beauty brands Face Gym, Miller Harris and is soon to welcome an Aesop store.

Coal Drops Yard Development Manager, Anna Strongman, said: “Coal Drops Yard is an amazing achievement, a bold vision delivered by a dedicated team with a diverse set of skills.

“It is an extremely complex project, one that successfully unites the area’s heritage with Heatherwick Studio’s progressive architecture.

“Coal Drops Yard will be a vital part of the King’s Cross experience, and we thoroughly look forward to welcome the public to discover it.”
