Pump packaging proves popular

Lotion pumps accounted for more than 800 million units globally in retail during 2012

Plastic lotion pumps are one of the fastest growing closure types in beauty products today. According to Regina Maiseviciute, Senior Packaging Analyst at Euromonitor, the growth of these closures has been influenced by categories such as liquid soap, which has been growing in popularity in recent years and is poised to overtake bar soap. Last year, lotion pumps accounted for more than 800 million units globally in retail.

Speaking at the Plastic Closure Innovations show in Cologne, Germany, Maiseviciute added that lotion pumps have begun to crop up in categories that have traditionally used other closure types. For example, anti-ageing creams have moved away from plastic screw closures to pumps to dispense products with greater precision.
