Pantone 18-1438 Marsala has been announced as this year's Pantone colour of the Year for 2015.
The earthy wine red colour was chosen after being spotted on the Spring 2015 runways for designers including Herve Leger by Max Azria, Daniel Silverstain and Dennis Basso. Meanwhile, in beauty, it was identified as an “appealing and sophisticated shade that's flattering against many skin tones”.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said: “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”
In 2014, Pantone 18-3224 Radiant Orchid was chosen as Colour of the year. To select the colour of the year, Pantone searches the world for colour influences across a spectrum of industries including fashion, entertainment, art, travel and other socio-economic conditions.
