New from Sederma is a solution for people wishing to lighten their skin or reduce pigmentation irregularities. Wonderlight is a botanical ingredient, said to act on both melanocytes and their associated keratinocytes to help lessen pigmentation issues. According to Sederma, it reduces the epidermal melanin unit cross-talking and blocks the signalling pathways involved in melanin synthesis to exhibit a strong effect on hyperpigmented areas.

Wonderlight is also said to be suitable for use in cosmetics designed for the Japanese market where lightening products are classified as quasi-drugs.

Wonderlight’s ability to inhibit the UV induced secretion of melanocyte stimulator GM-CSF was demonstrated in vitro and two clinical trials conducted on Asian volunteers with pigment disorders including lentigines, ephelides, melasma and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation further confirmed its melanogenesis reducing activity.
